Radio Show Details - March 29,2006
Hi All!
I hope you were all able to hear us on the radio last night. For those of you who don’t know, I’m on Carole Smith and Chuck Stewart’s radio show (Carole’s Corner on Technology) on WURD 900 am in Philadelphia on Wednesdays from 6pm - 7pm EST. I make a cameo apprearance sometime around 6:30 and I bring a few web tips and Internet news items to the table. If you missed it, you can go to the show web site at www.talkradio900.com to listen. The MP3 audio files are posted within a day or so after each show. You can also get the podcast at http://www.talkradio900.com/podcast900.xml
This week I spoke about 3 points. Writing articles and submitting them to article syndication sites, Network Solutions web domains and the new Microsoft Expression program that will replace Microsoft Frontpage.
Here’s my recap:
Article Syndication. Lots of people have creative writing skills that can be put to use to help your web site achieve a higher ranking. There are article syndication sites on the web that take the articles you write and distribute them for other people to use. There is no cost to submit your article, and in each article you publish you can put any information you want, including the link of your web site, which helps to boost your search engine listings! All this for FREE. You write, they publish, and you get the benefit of the links while the article provides new content for someone else. There’s quite a few out there, but the ones I mentioned on the show were: www.articlecity.com, www.goarticles.com and www.articlealley.com
About Network Solutions. Well, all I can say here is DO THE MATH. Network Solutions sells domain names for $35.00 a year. GoDaddy sells domain names for $8.95 a year. Is there any particular reason why you would want to pay more money? Do yourself a favor and transfer your domains to GoDaddy and use the extra $24.00 to buy a few more domains for your website that have keywords in them. For example if your website is myflowers.com consider buying another domain called flowersonsale.com - The object here is to think of what people will type into a search engine when they are looking for your business, and buy domains that have those keywords in there. Microsoft Web Expression. It’s official. Microsoft FrontPage will be no more once Office 2007 is released. I wrote about this in another blog but this week I only focused on the facts about FrontPage in the Microsoft press release that was issued on Febuary 15th. Overall, Microsoft is doing away with Frontpage. While this may excite some and incite others, the bottom line is that web development is changing once again, and we all have some decisions to make about what products we will be using. Keep in mind that the existing version of Frontpage 2003 will not be supported by Microsoft after 2008. For those who look at the screen shots of Microsoft Expression and feel the need to make a change in software, I’m recommending Dreamweaver 8. Here is a link to their free trial version.
